MY STORY

On March 3rd 2019 life threw me an unexpected curveball. I was involved in an accident where my right leg was amputated above the knee. My left leg was crushed and suffered significant temporary nerve damage. After  eight long days, I opened my eyes and found myself in a hospital bed. I was alive. I realized that a new chapter of my life had begun with clarity and focus that this event was not going to define who I was, but would come to help shape who I could become.

When I woke from the induced coma, I knew that all of my life experience taught me that you need to sit back on a curveball, as it's a great opportunity to hit it out of the park. This life changing experience has allowed me to reevaluate and change my culture by removing negativity and embracing love and support from healthcare providers, friends, and my family. On my road to recovery I have learned that positive thinking can make the impossible possible, and that is was important for me to share my story of recovery not the accident with the world. My story is about living in the moment and turning the page, not about living in the past. By sharing my recovery story with the fellow amputees I hope to help provide amputees education, awareness, and hope that dreams motivate, but determination dictates your future.

A new chapter of my story has just began, as I keep my eyes forward living in the moment, planning for the future and not dwelling on the past.
